Client Project: Coffee Table & End Table in Custom Chalk Paint with Wax

Nothing changes a room quite like a pop of color.  This project involved repainting and finishing a client's coffee table and end table, both of which are utilized in her comfy family room.  The table was a hand-me-down, and was once used as a craft table.  There was wear and tear, including drink rings, a stripped finish and water stains.  She wanted a more polished look that tied in with the rich colors of the family room, but also pulled away from her standard neutral furniture decor.  Let's take a look at the befores:

We decided on a rich blue to bring out  the colors in a gorgeous photo canvas my client took while on vacation in Venice a few years back.  The photo hangs above her couch and depicts an aging blue gondola docked near an old building.  My client's drapery in the room is rich, dark blue with beige accents and her entertainment center is a converted, distressed wardrobe.  I mixed the blue into a custom chalk paint shade and after painting both pieces were lightly distressed. The finish is a dark wax by Maison Blanche to darken the blue so that it blended in more with the feel of the room and also to play off of the wardrobe and drapery.  The end table's original drawer knob was too small for the piece and lacked any character, so we replaced it with a larger knob in which the center depicts a vintage map of the world.

Our client loved the new look and has already been emailing me her thoughts on new throw pillow fabric and lampshades!  Nothing like a pop of color to inspire a whole new look for a room.  Happy tables, Happy client!
